Today is the birthday of CS Lewis, one of the century's most influential Christian writers. I suspect that it's the rare evangelical Christian who is not at least dimly aware of Lewis' influential writings, be they his Narnia novels or his more directly theological works.
So what's your favorite Lewis book? Despite my appreciation for the oft-cited Mere Christianity, I've always been most fond of The Great Divorce and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, due to the theological insight in the former and the anthropomorphic ocean-exploring mouse in the latter.
A few CS Lewis links, then, in honor of his birthday:
- over at First Things, an essay about why Lewis attained such popularity in Christian circles not only in Britain, but in America.
- Into the Wardrobe, a rather slick site with photos, information, and scholarly essays about CS Lewis and his works. (Many more such Lewis-related links at the bottom of his Wikipedia entry.)
- ...and a fun one: an article about Lewis from the September 8, 1947 issue of Time Magazine.
Happy birthday, Mr. Lewis!
