A blast from the WAY past

Keith Green was one of the most popular contemporary Christian musicians in the late '70s/early '80s. He and 10 others (including two of his children) tragically died in a plane crash in 1982.

I had the privilege of interviewing him for a music magazine. He was truly a musical prophet, a musical genius with a rough edge and sharp words. Here's an example.

I only bring this up because a friend pointed me to this video below, circa 1965 from the TV game show "I've Got a Secret" with, who else, an 11-year-old Keith Green, who was just signed to a 5-year recording deal as a "rock-and-roll" singer. Pretty fun stuff and a fun performance by the aspiring teen star.

Check out the Wikipedia entry on Green for a great summary of his life and ministry...

Man, I love Keith Green. I was just a toddler when he died, but my dad and other family had albums of him. Right now, I've got the greatest hits CD on my ipod.

Ironically, my dad was watching this same video two days ago. I love seeing things like this preserved on YouTube.

Musical Genius indeed.
Thanks. Keith Green, his music and Last Days Ministries were a very formative part of my younger days in Christ. He had a very prophetic ministry. His "rough edge and sharp words" sometimes made him a victim of the vocational hazards of such a ministry (his early and ill-informed criticism of the Roman Catholic Church is perhaps the biggest example), but he had a sensitive and humble enough heart to be open to correction and true repentance. He practiced what he preached with "no compromise." This made him and even better example of how God can use people who are entirely committed to him in spite of whatever faults and mistakes they may have.
