About those ads…

You may have noticed something new here at ThinkChristian today: ads! Off on the right side of the page there is now an ad space where you'll soon be seeing, well, ads.

Why are we doing this? Has ThinkChristian finally bowed to the great Mammon machine? Definitely not—this is a step we're only taking after months of prayer and discussion. ThinkChristian is produced by Gospel Communications (which also runs BibleGateway.com and Gospel.com), and although we've avoided any form of advertising on those sites for 10+ years, we've come to the conclusion that it's no longer financially responsible to rely entirely on donors to keep our ministries and websites going. You can read our reasoning concerning advertising if you want the full scoop.

What does this mean for ThinkChristian? Well, not a whole lot, as far as content goes. We'll continue to post as we have in the past about culture and faith and all those related topics. But you now have the option of supporting our ministry by clicking on ads that interest you.

If you've got comments or feedback, by all means let us know using the comment section below or by sending us email. Removing the ads entirely isn't an option, but we'd like to make sure they don't interfere with your use of ThinkChristian. Thanks, as always, for your readership and participation!

Hey guys: Congrats on the ads! I know some people aren't going to like them, but I know you're following God's calling to keep the ministry vibrant and growing. Best of Luck!
Thanks Chip! You missed the hours of running around yesterday before we turned them on. Lots of fun...
What running around? Everything was just fine! FINE, I SAY!
Thanks Chip!
I'm not seeing terms of the advertising opportunity. How much is it for how many impressions, and so forth. Where's this information?
Please send me a note via e-mail to onlineads(at)gospelcommunications.org and I'd be pleased to discuss those details with you. Thanks for asking!
Good question! That sort of info is forthcoming shortly. This was just a post letting y'all know what's coming.
It looks like you've done a great job with your advertising rules. Thank you for making them public. I hope that whatever ad service you are using sticks to the intent of those rules without too much policing needed. If someone sees an inappropriate ad, is there somewhere specific a report should be sent ?
Thanks, CMF. Absolutely, we'll be very careful about the services we use. And great suggestion about providing a place where people can report inappropriate ads; we'll be sure to do that.
I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't even notice. I guess they can't be that bad
I didn't notice either. I think I've trained myself to tune them out, like elevator music.
