Anne Rice’s second Christ the Lord novel is out

Somehow this managed to completely slip past me unnoticed, but the second book in Anne Rice's series of novels about Jesus was published earlier this month. It's called Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana, and it apparently tells the story of Jesus' life and ministry between his baptism to the miracle at Cana.

I'm afraid to admit that I have yet to read the first novel in the series (it's sitting at home next to a heap of other unread books on my queue for this year), so I can't really comment on their quality. But Jan over at The View From Her seems to have liked Cana quite a bit, and has a good followup post challenging Christian apologists to be careful before condemning a story like Rice's for taking some artistic liberties.

Anybody going to pick this one up? Anybody already read it, and care to share your thoughts?

Thanks for the links, Andy! I did very much enjoy both books. I think there is a lot to celebrate in a professional writer of Anne Rice's caliber, who has become a believer, and in her own words, has consecrated her life to Christ and writing about Him.
Haven't read it yet, but I heard a glowing review of the second book on NPR the other day. I think it was from David Kuo, formerly of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. He left politics out of it, and pointed out some really exciting things about the novel. Like William Yancey's "The Jesus I Never Knew", it explores who Jesus was as a person.

I've heard Foster describe this as using one's "sanctified imagination".
I enjoyed both of the "Christ the Lord" novels a great deal (and reviewed them both). She is a credit to Christian art and writing. If you are interested, I just posted an interview with Anne Rice at my site:
