Cyclone Nargis

The BBC is reporting that 22,000 have died and 41,000 are missing from Cyclone Nargis which hit the coast of Burma a few days ago.

I found this video of the storm via youtube.com:

Andy posted about this over at the blog on Gospel.com. Read his whole article by clicking here:
It’s difficult to fathom that much death and destruction. And it’s all too easy to chalk it up as another “other side of the world” crisis that doesn’t affect us, and move on to the next headline. But when disasters like this strike, there is tremendous opportunity and need for a Christlike response. Among the many ministries and organizations already responding to the crisis are two from the Gospel.com community:
    * Gospel for Asia, which has converted its Bible college in Rangoon into a makeshift shelter for refugees and survivors. They set up the shelter after the local police station was destroyed; it’s currently providing shelter to over 80 people, plus 70 children from a nearby orphanage that was destroyed.
    * International Aid, which has a lot of experience responding to crises like this, is calling for financial help in organizing a large-scale relief effort.
In addition to these ministries, organizations such as the Red Cross are already reacting to the situation. Consider whether you can help out by supporting one of these relief efforts—and be sure to put the entire situation at the top of your prayer list.
In the coming few days I'm sure there will be more video and information emerging.

Are you planning on helping out in any way? How do you respond to something of this magnitude?

Was sitting on my porch last night, and got to thinking: if the cyclone had hit MY town/country, how would I want the rest of the world to respond?

Would I want them to maybe give up a trip to a restaurant and donate to the Red Cross/a missions organization instead? What if the prayers being said for me & my country were being said by people just like me - would I take comfort in knowing they really did care, would I merit even a sentence before God? Would I want their entire nation to help us out, or would I politicize the help and reject it because I just had to be in control?

If you can't give, please be in prayer for this precious nation; pray for barriers to be taken down, be glad our country & people and mission organizations are going to help out, help them financially and as summer approaches, maybe even physically.

Thank you for highlighting this on your website.
A small group of volunteers from my wifes workplace has recently returned for the second time from Myanmar (Burma), 2 weeks ago to be precise. The orphange they spent time in was entirely financed by those at her workplace. They all had photos around the walls of the 60 kids that lived there. They were beautiful children who had suffered so much. The military there like to play a game where they gather all the villigers per town into one place and seperate the youngest child in each family and make them watch while they machette to death all the family members and then they chase them in to the jungle. We still haven't been able confirm what happened to the rest of the aussies that were there but it has been confirmed that every child is dead. Truly evil.
Our biggests selling newspaper's headlines today were aabout a has-been footballer. Can you believe that?
During 9/11 the same paper carried at least 15 pages a day for weeks. What has this world become? Actually I know the answer to that question but it still stuns me when I think about it.
It was not as Al 'grandstand' Gore says, global warming, the earth has not warmed up in the last 10 years. This is a verifiable fact but that does not stop Gore from using tragedy and evil to promote his own faulty agenda. It was not a level 5 storm either it was a level 3 it was not bigger than the one 50 years ago either.
Two days before the storm the burmese authorities were warned of the storm and the state run radio told no one and now it the is the authorities who are still screwing around.
Please pray for those left behind, the families, friends and loved ones.
