Tuesday, January 17, Benjamin Franklin turns 300.
What an amazing man! He's credited with creating lightening rods, the first fire department, the first fire insurance plan, a urinary catheter for his brother with kidney problems, bifocal glasses (I have Ben to thank for being able to see the computer screen), daylight savings time and political cartoons as well as shaping the United States' form of government.
However, contrary to popular belief, Franklin did not invent the famous stove named after him; that honor goes to David Rittenhouse. Also, contrary to what some Christians would want to believe, Franklin was not a Christian, but a Deist who believed in a God who "governs in the affairs of men. . . ." but denied the divinity of Jesus Christ.
