Hello Mary Hulst

I'm happy to introduce Mary Hulst as our newest Think Christian contributor.  She's currently an Assistant Professor of Preaching at Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, MI.  She spent 8 years as the senior pastor at Eastern Avenue Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids before leaving to get her advanced degrees.

It is her fervent belief in the power of the gospel to change people's lives that motivates her to train the next generation of preachers. "Watching students deepen in their love for scripture and grow in their ability to preach is a great joy," she says.  "I can't wait to see how God will use these amazing people to build His kingdom and change the world."

Besides teaching, Mary enjoys sitting on her back porch on Sunday afternoons reading The New York Times.  She also likes hiking and backpacking, and has taking solo backpacking trips to Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

We're excited about the perspective Mary brings to TC and we think her thoughts and insights will be a great addition to the TC community.

Mary Hulst , Calvin College's new chaplain, brings new points of view to the once more moderate Christian college. She makes it clear on her Facebook that she strongly supports Obama and a liberal point of view. Her fave news, New York Times, her enjoyment of the character who mocked Sarah Palin, her criticisms of Focus on the Family and typical evangelical positions, give a new face to Calvin College's spiritual character. This will be something new for future Christian applicants to this college to consider.
