Spera in Deo: I haven't figured out how to articulate this question, so I'll just ask it and hope that you get the point.
I remember in seminary hearing a professor deliver a great lecture on following Jesus. She spoke of how, with love, we as Christ-followers can change our world, and even the world. Then, at the very end of the lecture, she encouraged us to go out into the world and work on changing public policy. It seemed so disconnected to the rest of lecture and confused the heck out of me. Did she just talk about Christian love changing the world and then urge us to lobby Washington?
Here's the question (and sorry it's not stated more eloquently). How best do we change the world? (This also begs another question, Is changing the world our primary 'cause' as Christ-followers?) Jesus said, when asked what the most important commandment is, "Love God; Love neighbor" (abbreviated version of Mark 12:28-31).
The answer probably has something to do with a balance of public and personal "love," but I'd love to hear your thoughts.
