Ever wondered why it's more common in many churches to hear sermons preached about the New Testament rather than the Old Testament? Ray Pritchard at CrossWalk has some thoughts about why that might be. Additional commentary at the Codex blog.
One possible reason that Pritchard doesn't explore (although he touches on it in points #4 and #6) is the simple fact that much of the New Testament, written in the form of instructive letters, seems more relevant to the immediate question of "How then shall we live?" Clearly, there's a wealth of spiritual instruction in the Old Testament, but I think its answers are less accessible to the average Western Christian mind than those in, say, Paul's letters to the church. Nevertheless, it's an interesting topic--maybe it will inspire a few pastors to visit the Old Testament a bit more frequently in their sermons.
