A couple quick film-related items:
First, Christianity Today is running a good essay by Barbara Nicolosi on how Christians can escape the creative ghetto--that is, approach Hollywood, movies, and art in a genuine and excellent way. She makes some insightful comments about the problems that arise when Christians approach film without a proper understanding of how art functions:
Entertainment is best when it poses compelling questions, when it is not a lesson for the viewer but a dialogue with the viewer. A movie can show the ramifications of a worldview, but it gets in real trouble when it starts articulating worldviews. Christians will never have real success in Hollywood until we accept that simply delivering the Truth will not help the audience. We must allow the audience to wrestle with the Truth.
The second item I want to note is that the "Jesus film," the famous Campus Crusade evangelistic film that tells the Gospel story word-for-word, is now being video podcast (podcasted?) chapter by chapter. The excellent Bible Film Blog has some commentary, along with a review of the film. If (like me) you've actually never seen the movie, you can watch it in its entirety online (in an insanely large number of languages) at the official website.
