New Contributor: Nathan Bierma

Recently I sat down with ThinkChristian's newest contributor—myself. Here are a few things I told me.

Q: Who are you?

A: What an existential question. Well, I'm a writer. I'm a Christ-follower. I'm a father. I'm a blogger. I love TiVo. What else would you like to know about me?

Q: That's plenty, thanks. Why are you looking forward to blogging for ThinkChristian?

A: I've been a blogger since 2001, back in the early days when blog posts were still written by telegraph. For at least as long, one of my favorite verses has been Romans 12:2: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God." ThinkChristian is an ideal intersection of blogging and that kind of discerning.

Q: What are your views on faith and culture?

A: I have several, as orderly and tidy as laundry in a dryer. One is: culture is (as they say) not optional. Another is: Christians are supposed to be different. Not always better, never louder, seldom righter, but different.

Consider my posts here an act of looking in the dryer and seeing what else is in there.

Hilarious.
There is a post out there that describes what a christian is and to the better part of it, it describes what you have said. Getting just one more to look at what God has to offer is what we all should be doing. No degrees, no pulpits, no soup boxes, just us showing others the love of God. In His Grace John
That was the most amusing and grabbing introduction I've read in a long time.
Great stuff.
Great Nathan! LOL I too am a Father and try to teach my daughters the right, true things in life. I'm Wes. Nice to meet you.
No comments on the post but used to love your On Language stuff in the Trib, there's a similar good thing in the Ideas section of the Boston Globe. All hail snarky language writing; may there be some of that on TC in the future!
Just curious, your last sentence said you're "not always better" and "seldom righter". Should you (we) be better and righter?
