(The following is intended to be a discussion-starting editorial statement)
Today I happened upon a church's blog. I noticed the minister's latest post. It was a set of links to articles which "clearly show" that "local officials" are to blame for disaster relief delays and that any blame on President George W. Bush is "misplaced." The links this minister provided all came from gopusa.com (a Republican site) and the National Review. Humility and golden rule principles are not present on the site; division and blame abound.
When it all hit the fan last week in New Orleans, did the American Christian Church show it's true colors? From where I sit, it looked like many Christians responded to disaster with politics. Obviously, millions of Christians also responded with Christlike servitude and prayer. But the fact that so many joined vigorously in the political blame game saddens me deeply. I wonder, Exactly when did the Republican Party's agenda overwhelm the message of Jesus in the American Christian Church? And, is a Democratic Party agenda for the Christian Church an appropriate solution? Can the Church rise above American politics?
