Reality TV: What is the draw?

I will admit it. I am hooked on certain reality TV programs. My favorites: American Idol, Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Survivor, and The Amazing Race.

I have done a lot of study on communication, including interpersonal communication and for me I believe that is the draw. I love to observe the way people attempt to get along in the midst of a stressful island adventure or race around the globe, show perseverance and determination while chasing their dream, or the way people band together to help out a family in desperate need.

What do you think about these types of programs? Do you feel there is redeeming value in observing people in these types of unique situations? Can we see glimpses of our Creator's unique design through observing people this way?
