Andy mentioned here a coupla months ago about George Barna's new book and the resulting discussion on the 'Net. Well, Barna's research group recently released an article detailing the shifts happening with this "hidden" segment of believers - at least hidden from mainstream church life; or, as Barna puts it, "the most massive reshaping of the nation’s faith community in more than a century."
“These are people who are less interested in attending church than in being the church,” he explained. “We found that there is a significant distinction in the minds of many people between the local church – with a small ‘c’ – and the universal Church – with a capital ‘C’. Revolutionaries tend to be more focused on being the Church, capital C, whether they participate in a congregational church or not.”
The common opinion in American Churchianity in the last few decades is that if someone left the church, they were falling away from God. These new Revolutionaries are turning that thought on its ear - claiming that leaving the church is actually helping them become more dedicated followers of Christ.
