Sacred terror: religion and the horror genre

A reader wrote in to point out an excellent pair of posts at the TheoFantastique blog: an interview with Douglas Cowan, a religion scholar who is currently writing a book called Sacred Terror: Religion and Horror on the Silver Screen. The interview (in two parts--part 1, part 2) covers a lot of ground, from the "inextricable relationship between religion and horror" to the answers that horror films offer to the age-old "problem of evil."

I'm glad to see the spiritual angle of horror getting some attention--scary movies have an uncanny way of reflecting our spiritual fears and ideas back at us, as we've discussed here before. Put it on the reading list for next Halloween!
