TED Talks: Billy Graham

The TED talks are unique. The basic principle is to invite a specialist in a field to come talk about something for a half an hour. About a year ago they started making the talks available on the internet.

Personally, I find just about everything fascinating, so the TED talks are like an eight year old discovering there's been a playground in her backyard her entire life.

Here's Billy Graham talking in the 80s about what technology cannot do:

Thoughts?

Also, here's a few others I found interesting.

Great website, great video. Thank you for sharing this.
Classic Billy G. I appreciate the man's humility and directness.

But I caution anyone against sharing this talk with a non-believer; flawed argument (Pascal's Wager in particular).

Personally, I find just about everything on TED fascinating! Thanks very much!
I have been watching TED videos for 2 years. I love technology and the way these great man and woman show their dedication to making the world a better place with it is amazing. Too bad to attend live you have to shed a few thousand dollars. (Yikes).

However, Billy G was right when he said, that even though Science and technology continue to advance, the main problem (sin) cannot be solved with tools, but by the blood of the savior.
he's talking in the 80s (his age) but in the 90s (1998) :)
Technical point: David did not take Israel from sticks and stones to the Iron Age. He took Israel from bronze technology to iron technology, still a very significant advance. One of the Phillistine's advantages may have been iron swords cutting through the Israelite's bronze shields, although a slung stone could still be fatal if it reached a vulnerable forehead.

That aside, Graham is of course correct that the benefits, or horrors, of technology are only as good as those who wield it. Generally, someone will manage to inflict just about any evil any technology is capable of, just as others will manage to do any good that can be done with it. And we will always argue about whether some uses fall into the category of good or evil.
