Move over, Mickey Mouse: it's Miracle Mouse! Milwaukee Magazine tells the truly strange and fascinating story of Tom Hignite, a man with a dream (and a lot of money) who set out to create a Disney-esque fantasy world in Wisconsin. When Disney fired many of its "old school" animators in 2003, Hignite hired them to create a Christian animation studio to go along with his epic homebuilding plan. Unfortunately for Hignite, despite millions invested in the dream, it did not pan out the way he hoped--but it sure makes for a crazy story.
(Hignite's Miracle Studios website is still up, and makes no reference to the many setbacks his would-be empire has recently experienced. You may notice a certain similarity in visual style between the Miracle Studios aesthetic and that of a certain major animation studio.)
