A great column yesterday from the initimable Terry Mattingly called "Religion futures market 2007." He reviews the religion gap between America and Europe.
Participants are asked to answer "yes" or "no" in response to this statement: "Religion is very important to me."
Yes answers:
60% U.S. 33% Great Britain 27% Italy 21% Germany 14% Russia 11% Czech Republic 11% France
This is one of the reasons Euros think we're too religious over here.
However, this cited study shows the results from other countries:
97% Senegal 95% Indonesia 92% Nigeria 92% India 91% Philippines 80% Angola 80% Guatemala 77% Brazil 72% Honduras
From Mattingly: "The bottom line: When it comes to weighing the role of religion in world affairs, Europeans who worry about America have to ask: 'Who looks strange now?'"
