A 2013 Barna study about the moviegoing habits of Christians revealed new details about the way believers interact with Hollywood.
I see few movies (as I usually fall asleep in the theatre or at home.) When I do make it through a movie, it is just a movie. A play. I know that it isn't effecting my life.
Sometimes it will depress me or cause me to long for thing that I wish my life had in it. I go to sleep and wake up the next day with all that out of my head and I continue on with reality.
The Passion made me think about scripture and go to my Bible to relate to what I saw.
Josh, thanks for passing along these interesting findings from the Barna group, and for your thought-provoking questions.
I don't know if just seeing movies causes me to consider my faith and how I hold it -- but the conversations that follow seeing movies certainly do. That's one of the reasons I like writing about film; as I often say to my students, "I don't know what I think until I write." Thanks for providing this forum for thoughtful people to think together.
