A plan for one-way trips to Mars has an unlikely commonality with the Christian call to take up one's cross.

WOW!!! Choosing to go to Mars?!?!?!

Not for me but there are some brave people who are willing to take the risk, Christian or otherwise. I think this program (going to live on Mars - hopefully) would at the very least make people think about their death and hopefully where they will go after they die.

Definitely sounds like someone will be buying the movie rights to this if the astronauts don't make it back. (Something like "The Perfect Storm" in outer space, I imagine.)

This is an intriguing prompt, for sure. It makes me think about how Jesus committed to the cross from all eternity, knowing even "before" doing so what it would mean. And what Jesus committed to was far worse than mere death. But on the other side of it was something infinitely worth it.

I send my blessings with these quixotic explorers. I hope they survive, because if they do, maybe it would witness to the triumph of the cross over death, too.
