Fantastic Mr. Fox, Greed, and the Holiday Season

Christmas, even with Christians has become a very superficial holiday. This is the time where I see my brethren stressed the most because they are spending money they don't have on gifts and running around (sometimes being rude) trying to complete their gift lists. I also see the stress when they run around preparing a huge banquet for their families. None of this is wrong in itself (giving gifts, cooking, etc.). But the stress that has been accumulated from it is alarming. The time that should be for reflection, worship, and relaxation, has become the craziest time of the year. Greed does live among us.

Interesting review! As a retired pastor, I have preached the messages about the dangers of greed 27 years and pray daily that greed in America will be defeated. Look at the financial mess into which greed has gotten us! Keep up the insightful commentaries. There's a book in this topic somehow, since God has made me into a writer in my retirement.

Amen! I echo your comments. We also need to pray that God will root out the selfish desires in us that may take different forms than greed. That old selfish, sinful nature that Paul referred to in Romans 7, Ephesians 5, and Colossians 3 is in all of us. It takes self-analysis and constant prayer.
