Living Advent

It seems to me that the real problem with Advent, and most spiritually-motivated holidays, is that life doesn't really come to a full stop. We have to experience Advent "on the run." That is true of holidays like Memorial Day and the Fourth of July too. We have to work up to and right after and often right on the holiday and we're having a great barbecue and oh yeah what are we commemorating anyway? It would take totally restructuring our economy, but we ALL need a substantial retreat now and then, even if it is a quiet day at home, and / or at church.
