Mumford & Sons’ milder Wilder Mind
May 5, 2015
In scrapping the banjos on Wilder Mind, Mumford & Sons seems to have lost the spiritual undercurrent that made the band so compelling.

John,
You have really put into words what I've been struggling to find words for since the songs started being released. Our CD came in the mail today, and my husband just said not a few hours ago that the lyrics don't communicate the same spiritual complexity. I haven't listened to all of the songs yet, but I feel like I'm trying too hard to love them. My husband, daughter and I saw the boys in Dixon, IL in 2012, during their first camping stopover. (I actually wrote about the concert for Think Christian.) We have loved the band since we first heard Awake and loved sharing that concert experience with our daughter, and although I can appreciate what is, yes, solidly "good" music, it doesn't stir ME to be better. Thanks for a thoughtful review.
