Off Minor Prophet: Thelonious Monk at 100

Despite the implication of his surname, Monk had more in common with the prophets than the ascetics.

My young 16 year old son, his friend and I, in 1992, were driving up to Big Sur together from SoCal, listening to Monk and loving his music and enjoying his sense of humor and finding tremendous joy and laughter in Monk's musical and rhythmic explorations. Monk has influenced my own musical expressions by the advice he gave new players, to just be themselves. I have seriously taken his advice to heart.
