Christ's conversations, while generous and curious, always demanded a definitive answer.

Great article! I've listened to On Being for a while now myself, maybe a few or even several years - time flies. I find Krista's show fascinating and all so valuable as a window into philosophies that often marginal or reshape Christ into an idolatrous human image. I don't mean that in a smarmy way. It truly is valuable.

It's a great tool to sharpen my own response, that I always have reason for the hope in me, that I'm less likely to be thrown off-kilter by exotic views I've never heard - that's not to say that you need a prepackaged response to speak rightly of Godly truth.

Krista's show is a wondrous type of thing where I all at once sit horrified at the lack of Christ I hear, sit in admiration of some of the experiences and accomplishments shared and learn fascinating things - some of which can better my own life.

The non-anxious presence is a surprising gift to many who need to ask hard questions and also accept that sometimes God gives no answer, except the absoluteness of his power and love. However, He always leads us to a decisive conclusion. What are you going to do with Me? Persistent, gentle, confidence in the One we represent is a strong testimony. I am reminded of the "godless chatter" Paul references in 1 Timothy 6 and know that I have a limited appetite for some conversations. But I love people and an appreciation for their story must be a part of that love.

Thanks for reading and commenting, M! I love your reflections, especially this: "Krista’s show is a wondrous type of thing where I all at once sit horrified at the lack of Christ I hear, sit in admiration of some of the experiences and accomplishments shared and learn fascinating things - some of which can better my own life."

Yes!

Thanks, Stacy, for reading and commenting. You're describing a beautiful application of "non-anxious presence", especially this: "I love people and an appreciation for their story must be a part of that love."

Tamara Hill Murphy wrote: "And I’m grateful for Tippett’s hospitable approach to the lived experiences of her guests, who represent various faith backgrounds."

Three hosts in Canadian media who also use a hospitable approach in their interactions with their guests of various faiths (or no faith) are: Drew Marshall (radio, The Drew Marshall Show), Mary Hynes (radio, CBC Tapestry), and Lorna Dueck (TV, Context with Lorna Dueck).

American listeners, whether Christians or not, will find these conversations quite fascinating.
