Who am I — a broken mess of a human being — to condemn the original, disastrous Dune?

I agree, the 1984 Dune is still a mess, but what a glorious mess it is! There was actually a good two and a half hours of footage that got cut, only some 40 minutes of which got put back into the TV edit, along with “created” scenes that went against both the book and David Lynch’s version so much so that he took his name off the TV cut. But it still has a great debut in Kyle Maclachlan, that unforgettable metal thong of Sting’s, that incredible score from Brian Eno and Toto, and then there’s Sir Patrick Stewart only a few years away from superstardom. Hard to believe this is 40 years old… where has the time gone?
