For a long time I followed reason. And that worked just fine. But wonder has opened up a whole new world of love and life.

Looooooved the movie!  And, I love your thoughts here on wonder.  Honestly, I had teetered on writing from that perspective as well.  But, this won out >>  http://ow.ly/5m26zIn my thoughts about wonder, I was actually going to quote C.S. Lewis.  Love this passage, which really gets to the heart of fear and wonder:
In my thoughts about wonder, I was actually going to quote C.S. Lewis.  Love this passage, which really gets to the heart of fear and wonder:
"Ooh!" said Susan, "I'd thought he was a man. Is he—quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion.""That you will, dearie, and no mistake," said Mrs. Beaver; "if there's anyone who can appear before Aslan without their knees knocking, they're either braver than most or else just silly.""Then he isn't safe?" said Lucy.
"Safe?" said Mr. Beaver; "don't you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? 'Course he isn't safe. But he's good. He's the king I tell you."

I appreciate the idea of wonder as opposed to reason. But, I also think that God is faithful to make Hiimself known should we ask Him to and seek His face.  He is full of mystery, but does not desire to be unknown.  Maybe there is a fine line between being in awe of Him and knowing nothing of Him.

Reasonable wonder? wondrous reason? for me, a continual wrestling/embrace of both---
Nature provides wonder, but science has also determined, detected reason at work in natural systems; I am often awestruck by wonder when I contemplate antiquities, castles/cathedrals, cave paintings, impressionistic art, literature, music as well.
Faith, doubt, reason, wonder, all fluid and working together.

Wonder makes reason worth the effort.

As a kid- I walked in the awe and wonder of God. Then I pressed into reason as I tried to become a solid ambassador for Christ. I think through arguments and the logical side of God's truth- but now I am walking life in an appropriate sense of awe and wonder! His grace is Amazing!

Unfortunately, sloppy, slavish handling of the second half of the movie ruined any sense of wonder Super 8 was going for at the end.  I new what it was trying to do, but it didn't succeed because the plot got too big and ate the characters and the whole thing turned into Spielberg-o-matic.

The Tree of Life, however, was a movie where I did feel the wonder and power of God.  It's a polarizing experience, certainly not normal movie-going, but it's affected me like no other film I've ever seen, and I suspect it will do the same for anyone--especially Christians--who keeps their mind open enough to engage it.
