The Sessions and watching sex onscreen

I have to admit I have not(and will not) see this movie due to my own sinful hangups. However, after reading your article and watching the trailer I'm betting the movie fails in two ways.

First, the assumption that sex makes a life whole.

Second, the idea that sexual disclosure by itself makes a person connected. God created sex to be a part of a package that includes our mind, emotions, and lives. When used by itself a person feels more disconnected and alone once the experience ends.

Hi there,

I don't think that nudity and watching other people having sex is ever ok in the eyes of the Lord.

Watching your neighbour undress or in the nudity would be classified as voyeuristic behaviour. Watching your neighbours through a window in bed together would be totally off bounds, so what makes watching two people having sex through the window of a tv or movie screen, appropriate? In my mind it doesn't.

Is it ok to watch?
If you were to feel uncomfortable if Jesus was sitting beside watching it with you, I think you have your answer there.

I would completely agree with those two points, Ben. I don't think that the movie or the characters share my own perspective on sex. I do think that this movie deepened my understanding of the desires and needs, the full human-ness, of someone so severely disabled.
