Good points, Caryn. It's like when someone comes out of surgery and then people say, "It's in God's hands now." It's always been in God's hands for crying out loud!

The passage that came to mind in reading your thoughts on the attitude about control and risk avoidance:

The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

God is our loving Father and we are his children for eternity whether we get a double mastectomy in time or not.
