Five Grammy Nominees Worth Your Attention

Josh Larsen

A year ago, when we posted our first music piece of 2023—on SZA’s SOS—little did we know that she would go on to become the most-nominated artist at the 2024 Grammys.

Alongside SZA, who received nine nominations, the Feb. 4 ceremony will spotlight boygenius, Olivia Rodrigo, Ed Sheeran, and Taylor Swift—all artists we’ve considered here at Think Christian, bringing artistic appreciation and theological reflection to their music. Below you’ll find links to those posts, as well as a listing of their respective nominations.

Boygenius and Being Known

On the TC podcast, Josh, Abby, and Sarah discuss the supergroup’s album the record, a beautifully seamless collaboration about the yearning to be known.

Boygenius Grammy Nominations: Record of the Year (“Not Strong Enough”); Album of the Year (the record); Best Rock Performance (“Not Strong Enough”); Best Rock Song (“Not Strong Enough”); Best Alternative Music Performance (“Cool About It”); Best Alternative Music Album (the record).

Olivia Rodrigo Spills Her Guts (and We Should, Too)

The pop star’s second album questions standards of perfection — including those in the church.

Olivia Rodrigo Grammy Nominations: Record of the Year (“Vampire”); Album of the Year (GUTS); Song of the Year (“Vampire”); Best Pop Solo Performance (“Vampire”); Best Pop Vocal Album (GUTS).

Ed Sheeran’s Psalm of Lament

Out of personal pain, the singer-songwriter fashions an album that mirrors the anguish, confusion, and persistent hope of Psalm 22.

Ed Sheeran Grammy Nominations: Best Pop Vocal Album (-, or Subtract).

Taylor Swift’s Midnights and Psalm 139

During our wakeful hours, solace can be found in both Taylor and the psalms.
