Hail, Caesar! Another Jesus tease from the Coen brothers
February 12, 2016
Jesus has never been a stranger to the movies of Joel and Ethan Coen, but in Hail, Caesar! he’s darn near a supporting character.

My wife and I saw this film last night. We both loved it. I've already heard of other Christians who have either walked out mid-film and didn't finish watching it, or others that have been persuaded to not even attempt to see it because they have heard it mocks Christianity. I didn't get that at all from watching this film. I thought it was well done and not only did it present Christianity in a positive light, but there was much more to the film that just that. There seemed to be some subtext/commentary regarding the film-industry in general (at least I don't think I was imagining that).
Good review.

I was eagerly awaiting your thoughts on this film.
We saw it Tuesday and analyzed the heck out of it all the way home...from Brolin being something of a Jesus figure who won't give up on the misfits he is charged with...to feeling the need to personally answer the lunch guy's question of the crucified criminal, Are you a principal or are you an extra? (A line I have to blog about before my head explodes)
And, yes, that missing word was a big topic of our conversation.
Thanks as always for your insight, Josh.

Nice to hear from people who have gone to see it! The box office response has been dismal (though not surprising).

My Dad was the baptizing preacher in O Brother Where Art Thou. He tells a story of one day on the set where one of the brothers, I can't remember whether Ethan or Joel, asked him, "if you baptized me, would it 'take'?" Daddy's response was, "Yes, if you believe." He said the brother said something like, "maybe one day"...
