The BFG: forgiveness and phizzwizards

One of the central dreams in Steven Spielberg's The BFG speaks to our longing for forgiveness.

Thanks for drawing parallels for me Josh. As an infant Christian, I appreciate all the help I can get in understanding the nature of my own efforts to supplant God. Are these efforts also referred to as works of the flesh (a la Joyce Meyer)? Please share some of the spoilers you mentioned we can find in scripture, so I can read them again as trogglehumpers.

Thanks for reading, Jane. I'm honestly not familiar with what Joyce Meyer says about works of the flesh. What I meant by "spoilers" were the pointers to Christ that Scripture includes as far back as Genesis 3, where God promised that the woman's offspring (Christ) would crush the serpent's head, and then again when Jesus was prophesied by Isaiah in Isaiah 53.

My wife and I took our 9 and 7 year old to see the BFG last weekend. They loved it. One of the things they came away with from the movie, theologically, is a need to be more accepting and understanding of those different from us, and less quick to simply point a finger and judge.

That when we take the time to learn why others do what they do, which to us may seem odd or strange (like catching dreams) we gain a better understanding of their plight. And are better equipped to put into practice Jesus' words: "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." (Lk. 6:37)
