The Handmaid’s Tale: Dystopia by Proof Texting

The Handmaid’s Tale shows us how dangerous parts of the Bible are when ripped away from the whole.

This review points out the potential problems with proof-texting. As a friend pointed out many years ago, "You can use some quote from the Bible to prove almost any point of view." That was long before I heard anyone talking about the whole story of the Bible. So much of what I read and then analyze today depends on the the "lens of the whole Bible story. Thank you for a refreshing article and an interest in reintroducing myself to The Handmaid's Tale.

I never read the book and didn't know if I would see the movie..hmmm.. now my interest is piqued. However, I am also reminded of a movie preview I went to see a LONG time ago, a movie I don't recollect the name of but was based on the book, Scarlet Letter. It too, was very visual but also showed Christians as evil. It was disturbing. Sounds like this movie does the same thing,in being bias and with anti-christian rhetoric. Unfortunately,many people don't know how to discern between what is true and not true but will just believe the message sent.
