Wanted: book reviewers for ThinkChristian
Andy Rau •
Like to read? Want to write for ThinkChristian? If so, this is your lucky day!
For some time, we've wanted to add book reviews to ThinkChristian. Chris and I have collected a large pile of recent books about Christianity and culture (many of them donated by IVPress and other fine publishers) that we'd like to discuss here. But it's becoming clear that our vision of reading and reviewing all these books was just a dream—a beautiful but impossible dream.
So we're asking you, our readers, for some help.
Here's the deal: if you're interested in reading and reviewing a book for ThinkChristian, we'd love to hear from you. We'll start small by sending out a handful of books out to interested reviewers, and if it goes well, we'll expand things to include more books and more reviewers.
If you're interested in reading a book about Christianity and culture and then writing a short review of it for publication on TC, we want to hear from you. Here's what to do:
- Send an email to editor@thinkchristian.net with "book reviews" in the subject line.
- Tell us your name, a sentence or two about who you are, and if you have any special interests, favorite genres, or areas of experience (i.e. the emergent church, the arts, theology, Star Trek, etc.). We'll use this info to send you a book that hopefully aligns with those interests.
- Include a short writing sample so we can get a feel for your writing style. If you've got a blog, you can give us a link to that instead. If not, write up a paragraph about a book you've read or a movie you've seen recently. We want to see how you process and express your ideas.
Next week Friday, we'll choose three reviewers from the submissions we receive, and will contact them to get them set up with books to review. (Remember, we're going to start with just a few. We'll keep all the submissions on file for if/when we decide to add more reviewers.)
Please note that for the time being, this is on a volunteer basis—you can of course keep the book we send you, but your only rewards for getting your review posted on TC will be public adoration and the certain knowledge of your own awesomeness. Also, most of the books currently on tap are nonfiction books about faith and culture; we may expand beyond that in the future, but for now, that's what we've got. We reserve the right to pick or not pick you as seems fitting; we'll discuss copyright and other legalities with you if and when we select you.
Interested? We're eager to hear from you, so send us a note!
