I have a brother who is an artist who specializes in some amazing comic style art. I've longed for him to see the value his work could do for Christ.
Now I have a daughter who draws and makes manga characters like there's no tomorrow, and I'm trying to tell her the same.
Thanks for the GREAT article!

I thought about this article for awhile ... as I love the sentiment, but found it equally disturbing. Let me explain.

Before we do the comic books, can we please bring some creativity into our real world gatherings? I grant you there are some churches that are cutting-egde-contemporary ... but frankly many of them are also bordering on performance. For the rest, as I wrote recently "the best we've been doing with many of our services is decades old music and words from a book written by some dusty old saints. They were (probably) being creative in their time, but why should we live on their creativity, that must be a real insult to God. That's like a student chef bringing Macdonald's to work for his lunch.

Imagine if our family dinners were arranged in the way we arrange our services!

I mean, come on ... we're gathering with Jesus! How can you formalize that, or performance-size that?

Lets be creative in the way lovers are creative when they meet, lets be creative in giving in our gathering. We're created to be creative in our relationship!

Dean,

Nice article but...

Here's a reality you may be unaware of, and that I would kindly ask you to ponder. I don't think the problem is that there is a dearth of material available to illustrate using a comic book format. I publish a book series that would be an excellent candidate for a comic book format, and the author and I have discussed this extensively. As far as I can tell, the problem is a simple matter of affordability on the illustrator side. I have PLENTY of text that could be set to a good comic-book illustrator's talents. Let me know where I can find such talent willing to partner with me: I provide the text, they provide the illustrations - we both share the profits. I've been looking. All I can find are illustrators who want to charge incredible sums of money up front.

Kind regards,

Kevin
