I saw A Wrinkle in Time today (3D!) with my mother in law. I left the theatre feeling, like, WOW, so amazed -- but then the more I thought about it, I was a little disappointed. It's because of what you named (but you did so in a way that made me laugh): "Directors and Screenwriters emphasize themes of personal empowerment and self-actualization. Did I mention, Oprah?" HA! I noticed those themes right away -- wondered if they are contrary to the "metaphor of spiritual struggle" that L'Engle intended. Maybe so, but you hit the nail on the head. Psalm 139 is the connecting point -- recognizing human worth and value. That's what gives Meg the courage to do what must be done. Thanks for what you've written here.
