On Mandatory Fun, "Weird Al" Yankovic mocks the upside-down values of popular culture and celebrates the awkward joy of being human.

I watched Word Crimes and saw not a lament of "the dumbing down of the English language", but a skewering of the grammar police who go around lamenting that supposed dumbing down. Al's video goes after the people who think themselves better at grammar and language than the hoi polloi, not the hoi polloi who struggle with the English language.

I'd have to say I saw the opposite way, that it was indeed the best grammar lesson ever, in the tradition of Schoolhouse Rock. Fun, not quite arrogant, but truly calling out common errors in a texting culture. If I was going to defend colloquial grammar, I'd expect him to use it, not correct it. It's Word Crimes, not Word Whines!
