Why metal isn’t just for Satan anymore

While I've never been a huge fan of Demon Hunter, I've definitely been a fan of many of the bands in the hardcore/metal scene that would identify themselves as "Christian." One of my struggles with the Christian music scene for a long time was that there weren't any bands that were as good as secular bands. Underoath, Emery, Anberlin, August Burns Red, and Haste the Day changed that for me.

Oh, and if you have never listened to Thrice, do so now.

My son introduced me to Thrice, which is on their farewell tour. They are amazing and their lead singer Dustin Kensrue's solo stuff is more unplugged and really good too.

I also recommend O Sleeper.The Vices Like Vipers album is basically the epic battle at the end of John's Revelation. The vocal back and forth between scream (Satan) and clean lyrics (God) is really powerful.They have some powerful melodies and good musicianship as well. Honestly, after hearing their take I have a hard time imagining something as epic as The Revelation presented with traditional CCM-type instrumentation and pop-band vocals. The story is too big.

I have old ears and have to read the lyrics while they are singing the way I have to read the libretto at an opera. Worth the effort.

What ever it takes to get Gods message out and bring people in faith.

It's like Larry Norman said back in 1972, "Why should the Devil have all the good music?"
